How to Clean and Maintain PVC Floor Tiles

PVC floor tiles are a popular choice among commercial and residential spaces due to their resilience, durability and water resistance. They are available in a variety of colours, styles and types. But just like any PVC floor tiles require maintenance to retain its qualities and look at their best. In this blog, let us delve into some of the tips for cleaning and maintaining PVC floor tiles.

What are PVC floor tiles?

PVC floor tiles/Vinyl tiles are flooring tiles made from polyvinyl chloride, a synthetic material consisting of a series of polymer chains.

It has a smooth surface and is easy to clean, making it ideal for industrial, commercial and domestic applications.

PVC tiles are a type of plastic, which are slow conductors or insulators. It doesn't transfer heat or cold easily, making the floors more comfortable underfoot. This is especially good in spaces prone to temperature fluctuations.

PVC tiles are available in various shapes and can be flexible or rigid. It can be designed to look like materials such as wood and stone, adding to its aesthetics.

How to clean and maintain PVC floor tile

PVC floor tiles have a rather straightforward cleaning routine.

  •  Regular sweeping/vacuum cleaning

Regular sweeping or vacuuming is effective in removing dirt and debris. High-traffic areas tend to accumulate more dust and silt, so this method will help to remove loose grime.

  • Mopping

Mopping the floor with lukewarm water and neutral detergent. It is advised not to use harsh chemicals as they might damage the floor surface.

  • Spot cleaning

Spills and stains are unavoidable. Spot cleaning is an option to protect the floor tile from the after effects of stains. Clean stains immediately using a damp cloth coated with a lotion or a nylon pad, depending on the intensity of the stain.

  • Choose the right cleaning agent

Consider choosing floor cleaners that are pH-neutral and mild. Dilute it with water and mop the surface.

  • Scratch protective pads

Make sure to affix felt pads under the legs of furnishings and cushions. Avoid dragging materials across the floor as it may cause scratches and damage.

  • Coat with floor sealers

Applying floor sealers to PVC floor tiles is an excellent choice to protect the surface and enhance its appearance. The sealer will wear with time and it requires periodic removal and reapplication.

PVC floor tiles come with low-maintenance, but extra care and focused attention can help in maintaining the floor clean and extending its longevity.
